Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are mood and anxiety disorders that occur during either pregnancy or postpartum. Perinatal depression is the most common type of PMAD and is often unrecognized and untreated. However, PMADs include a range of conditions such as:
It’s estimated that 1 in 5 birthing women experience PMADs, making these conditions far more common than many realize.

Many women experience the “baby blues” after giving birth. However, these “blues” are short-lived and typically resolved within approximately two weeks without intervention. But if symptoms persist, intensify, or begin during pregnancy, it may be more than just the “baby blues”. Common signs of PMADs include:

There is no single cause of PMADs. Like many mental health conditions, they are influenced by a mix of biological, psychological, relational, and environmental factors, including hormonal changes, past trauma, life stressors, or lack of support.
That’s why our approach at The Well Woman is both preventative and supportive.
Our perinatal mental health trained clinicians offer the ROSE Program (Reach Out, Stay Strong, Essentials for mothers of newborns), an evidence-based program shown to reduce cases of postpartum depression. This group-based support helps you build resilience before baby arrives.
Using the ROSE curriculum, the perinatal support group will meet for one hour each week for four consecutive weeks. The group will discuss:

To ensure continued care, you’ll also have a one-on-one booster session during the postpartum period for individualized support. We recognize the unique challenges that can arise after birth. We are committed to providing care that begins during pregnancy and extends into the early postpartum period, when support is often most needed.
Our perinatal support group offers a safe, judgment-free space to share your fears, worries, discomforts, and joys, because all emotions are valid, even those we often tell ourselves we shouldn’t feel.
Let us support you during pregnancy so you can step into motherhood with realistic expectations, practical tools for navigating hard days, and the confidence to advocate for your needs.
